Jumping Frames Dance Video Festival 2009: Guangzhou

Pina Bausch, DV8, Dance Animation and More Guangzhou Premiere of International Top-notch Dance Videos
Dance video, which has been prevailing in Europe and America, is a unique art genre that encompasses the aesthetics of dance and video. Presented by City Contemporary Dance Company of Hong Kong (CCDC) since 2004, Jumping Frames Dance Video Festival aims at promoting this art form in China and it becomes the biggest dance video festival in China showcasing outstanding dance videos. It is also the only dance video festival in Asia that features both commissioned works and works for competition. Following the resounding success of Jumping Frames held in Hong Kong, Beijing, Macau and Guangzhou, the festival will expand the programme in Guangzhou by organising Jumping Frames Dance Video Festival 2009: Guangzhou from 12 to 13 December 2009 at Guangdong Modern Dance Company Small Theatre to present the best of the world’s recent dance videos from Europe and the US. The festival also organises Jumping Frames Dance Video Competition 2010 to invite submission of innovative works worldwide. Outstanding works selected by panel judges will be awarded with cash prize and will be organised for screening at the next festival and will be promoted worldwide for future screening possibilities.

Coffee With Pina
Pina Bausch, one of the world’s most influential choreographers, passed away at the age of 68. As the creator of tanztheater, she redefined modern dance for audiences and won a growing and enthusiastic fan base worldwide. The Festival features Coffee With Pina again in remembrance of Pina. It is a film between a documentary and video art with an intimate dialogue with Pina Bausch behind the scenes and the footage of the performances Aguá and Rough Cut.

Forward Motion: Artists’ Choice
Co-produced by the British Council and South East Dance in 2008, Forward Motion is a collection of outstanding British dance films curated and recommended by leading figures in British dance and film world. In Artists’ Choice, high profile dance makers, including Akram Khan and Shobana Jeyasingh etc., select their favourite UK dance films.

Award Winners Showcase of Jumping Frames Dance Video Competition 2008
The biennial Jumping Frames Dance Video Competition is one of the most important international dance video competitions in Asia. Outstanding works from all over the world selected by the panelists consist of experts from dance, multi-media TV and film sector will be screened during the festival. Various award-winning works of the 2008 competition are selected in this programme and will be screened for the first time in Guangzhou.

Cinedans 2009 Touring Shorts
Cinedans International Film, Dance and Media Festival is a unique festival based in Amsterdam organised annually by Janine Dijkmeijer, Cinedans’ founder and director. As a renowned festival in the Netherlands and abroad focused on dance films, short films from all over the world will be screened during the festival including choreographies created specifically for filming, adaptations of existing dance performances, documentaries as well as retrospectives. Presented by Constance Vos, curator, organiser and producer of cultural events and exchange programmes in both the Netherlands and China focusing in contemporary performing arts, film and video, these programmes are fascinating tour of short films for dance and film lovers.
